Ruby

June 2009

We are happy to report Ruby has been adopted by her foster family.
She and her pal, Levi, are living happily with their new forever family in Seminole County, FL. We wish them all the best in their new lives together.

Ruby came to us after her owner abandoned her at a boarding facility. She wasn't in horrible shape (totally starved), but was definitely on her way. The owner of the facility told us she was giving her "the bare minimum" for food because the owner had skipped town and she was owed board. She planned to sell her at auction unless we took her.

Most rescues would not have taken or helped her because she wasn't in dire straights. They feel spending money on a horse that isn't close to death or hasn't been turned over to animal control is not in their best interest to help. We feel it is important to help (to the best of our abilities and resources) any horse that is in trouble... as for Ruby's specific situation, she was in a bad situation and on her way to a worse one... and we weren't going to leave with out doing something. So, Steve and I paid her owed board and took her to a temporary home where she has been for the last couple months.

Ruby is slowly gaining weight. So far, she doesn't have any apparent health problems. Her biggest issue seems to be fear of humans, so we are beginning to deal with those through natural horsemanship and consistent, positive one on one interaction. Fortunately, she wants to connect more than she is afraid, so hopefully we will gain ground quickly.

Her Foster Home

On March 9th 2008, Ruby will move to her new foster home with the Tyrells. She will be living among a goat, sheep, many ducks, some chickens, a bunny, a guinea pig, and a dog. Since she will be close by, I will be bringing one of my guys (horses) to keep her company for a few hours each day... and we will be able to work with her almost on a daily basis.

We are thankful for the Tyrell's for taking her in and I know Ruby will be too.

Ruby's New Digs
