Volunteer Q&A's

What kind of help do you need? Volunteers come in all shapes, sizes, and ages... and there is a volunteer opportunity for almost anyone in our organization. Some people help only with training, others help only in emergencies, and others do chores around the barn or property. Every job counts and is important to the over all welfare of our horses, and we appreciate the generosity and hard work of all our volunteers. A few jobs we need help with on a daily basis are cleaning stalls, cleaning tack, sweeping out the barn, cleaning water/feed buckets, water troughs, vehicle maintenance, load hay, grooming, weed-whacking, mowing, fixing hot-wire, bringing horses in/out, etc.

What kind of folks make good volunteers?  We want people who are reliable, self-starters, hard-working, and not afraid of getting dirty or doing blue collar work. Most of the work in maintaing horses isn’t glamorous or especially fun, so people who want to volunteer with our organization must be committed to doing the job right (no matter what the job) and not expect a lot in return other than, our complete and undying appreciation and knowing your work is helping these horses gain a better life.

What kind of hours can I volunteer? It is up to you... you can volunteer for 2 hours a day or week, or one weekend a month, every saturday morning... whatever it is, be on time, be consistent, be reliable. The only requirement we really have is we ask you make at least a 3 month commitment.

A few considerations before you make a commitment... be sure you have the time to do what you've signed up for. It is costly for us to train folks at the jobs they want to volunteer for, so if you commit to a job for a certain timeframe, please be serious about upholding that commitment. Also, the price of gas is crazy right now. Be aware of how much extra it will cost you to travel to us. Finally, most of the jobs we need help with do not give you direct contact/access to the horses... in fact, for safety reasons, only folks who are qualified (ground level natural horsemanship certification) will be able to have hands on contact with the horses. People who do not have such credentials, will not be allowed to touch, feed, etc. the horses. If this is a problem for you, we suggest you either work on getting your ground level natural horsemanship certificate or find another avenue to satisfy that desire.

The good news is all of your time/money spent volunteering is tax-deductible (we are a pending 501(c)3 organization), so keep records and receipts for the IRS.

If you fit this description, what are you waiting for??????
